For its latest fiscal quarter, Apple sold over 17 million iPads, compared to 9.2 million in the year-ago quarter for a year-over-year increase of 84%.

“That’s very strong year-over-year growth, and we’re pleased to be selling the iPad in 97 countries,” says Apple Chief Financial Officer Peter Oppenheimer. “Even though we saw all-time record Mac sales to U.S. education institutions, we sold twice as many iPads as Macs to U.S. institutions.”

He adds that the Apple tablet continues its rapid adoption within the enterprise market. The estimates amount of iPads in Fortune 500 has more than tripled in the past year, according to Oppenheimer.
