iPod retains 70% share of MP3 player market

iPod market share is down year-over-year, but it’s still the top-selling MP3 player in countries that Apple tracks with over 70% of the market. The iPod touch accounts for over half the iPod sales, Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a conference with analysts regarding the company’s latest financial results.

He added that over a quarter of a billion iOS devices were downloaded during the latest fiscal quarter. Apple says there are 500,000 apps in the Apple App Store, which has seen 18 billion downloads to date. The App Store had expanded to 123 countries by the end of the September quarter.
