Apple tells Amahi to drop ‘app store’ usage

Apple has sent a cease-and-desist order to Amahi, a small open source home server project based on Fedora (and now Ubuntu) that provides users a marketplace of sorts for installing applications to their server, over their use of the “App Store,” reports “eHomeUpgrade” (

“What’s funny is that Amahi has nothing to do with Apple and is not even in the mobile space — but I guess since Apple recently branched out to downloadable software on OS X they feel entitled,” the article adds. “In any case, Amahi, with its limited resources, can’t fight ‘the internationally famous’ tech bully and is holding a contest to rename their marketplace.”

Reportedly, people in over 30 countries around the world rely on Amahi on a daily basis. The company says it has “most reliable and most extensible open source home server in the world,” available in over 20 languages. Because Amahi is open source, you can make changes to the code as you wish.
