‘Financial Times’ owner may look elsewhere than Apple App Store

“Financial Times” owner Pearson says it may remove its business from the Apple App Store if the company continues to refuse to give up customer information.

Recently, Apple announced a new subscription service for magazines, newspapers and music bought through its app store, but offered tough terms including keeping 30% of subscription revenues and retaining control of customer information. Pearson CEO Majorie Scardino told “The Guardian” (http://macte.ch/4YDaS) that there was enough competition to the Apple App Store that his company wouldn’t have to capitulate to Apple’s terms.

“The important thing to remember is there are many, many tablets coming out and multiple devices … [from] Kindle to mobiles,” he says. “If indeed Apple are not happy to give us customer data then maybe we will get it somewhere else.”
