Equinux (http://www.equinux.com) has introduced tizi, Europe’s first mobile TV hotspot for the iPad and iPhone. It delivers digital TV programs (DVB-T/DTT/TNT) directly to the Apple devices over WiFi.

The latest in chip technology allows tizi to bring the sharpest television to your favorite touchscreen — all without cables or an adapter, according to equinux CEO Till Schadde. An integrated hotspot allows it to deliver the TV signal to your device. Turn it on, choose tizi’s pre-configured WiFi network, start the app and you’re good to go.

iPad and iPhone users can watch TV on the go for up to 3.5 hours with tizi. The replaceable battery can be recharged via a free USB port on your laptop or even using an iPad power adapter. During use, an LED status light displays the current battery level.

The included tizi.tv app requires iOS 4 on the iPhone (3GS and 4), iPod touch (fourth gen or third gen, 32GB model) and iOS 3.2 on the iPad. It supports both portrait and landscape mode and offers full multitasking abilities under iOS 4. tizi is ready for the upcoming iOS 4 on iPad.

Tizi is available from the equinux online store for €149.95. Tizi owners can get the free iPhone/iPod touch/iPad app via the tizi.tv web site. Note that tizi supports the unencrpyted European free-to-air TV standard (DVB-T/DTT/TNT) and is only available in European countries. HD services such as Freeview HD (UK) and DVB-T2 aren’t supported.
