Apple has become the latest defendant to settle infringement allegations from Sharing Sound LLC over a patent for online music distribution, joining Microsoft, Napster LLC and others, reports “Law360” (http://macosg.me/2/x6).

Judge David Folsom of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas signed off on the settlement Wednesday, clearing Apple of allegations that it on a Sharing Sound patent for “distribution of musical products by a website vendor over the Internet.” Apparently, Sharing Sound is using the broad patent to rake in money from as many companies as it can because apparently the company “has never managed to use its patented technology to produce anything, or at least not anything interesting,” says “TechCrunch” (http://techcrunch.com/2010/10/01/apple-itunes-sharing-sound-settlement/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Techcrunch+%28TechCrunch%29).
