A version of the iPad with a built-in video camera and support for the new FaceTime video conferencing standard has already progressed to the advanced testing stages, says “AppleInsider” (http://www.appleinsider.com), quoting a “person with proven knowledge of Apple’s future product plans.”
When might such a device arrive? Perhaps in time for holidays, but no later than March 2011, the article says. And the move, if it happens, would be as much about FaceTime as the iPad.
“It’s also believed that Apple may striving to embed FaceTime within its entire mobile arsenal before making good on a promissory to open up the standard to the rest of the world, thereby mitigating the market opportunity for rival tablet devices that could incorporate the technology,” says “AppleInsider.”
FaceTime is video calling that uses Wi-Fi. Apple says that using FaceTime is as easy as making a regular voice call, with no set-up required. On the iPhone 4 and fourth gen iPod touch, you can instantly switch to the rear camera to show others what you are seeing with just a tap.
