Akai Professional announces AkaiConnect SDK

Akai Professional has released the the AkaiConnect SDK (software development kit), which allows third-party developers access to put all the professional controls and capabilities of Akai Pro’s SynthStation25 keyboard controller to work in conjunction with their music apps for the iPhone and iPod touch.

To coincide with the availability of the new SDK, Akai Pro also launched a special web site at http://www.synthstationapp.com with the latest information about the SynthStation25 keyboard, SynthStation app, and the new AkaiConnect SDK. App developers can also apply to become an Akai Pro developer free of charge.

Akai Pro’s SynthStation25 is a 25-key MIDI keyboard, featuring a built-in dock for the iPhone or iPod touch. It gives users two octaves of velocity-sensitive, synth-action keys, pitch and modulation wheels, and physical buttons for the most commonly used controls, including octave up and down. The SynthStation25 also features a stereo pair of RCA line outputs and a headphone output for connection to recording and sound monitoring systems. The SynthStation25 also has an USB/MIDI output for use as a controller for other MIDI software on Mac or PC and MIDI hardware devices.

Software developers interested in creating apps compatible with SynthStation25 can submit an application now at SynthStationApp.com. Once approved the SDK is available to use license-free within a music app for iPhone or iPod touch. The SynthStation25 will be available from pro audio and musical instrument retailers soon at a retail price of US$299.
