LaCie (http://www.lacie.com) has announced the LaCie XtremKey, an USB Flash drive with capacities up to 64GB and an “impenetrable shell.” Pricing starts at US$49.99 for an 8GB version.

LaCie shields the XtremKey’s premium flash memory modules inside a 2mm metal pipe casing. Sealed with wear-resistant screw threads and a rubber O-ring, it’s watertight up to 100 meters. The LaCie XtremKey is also resistant to five-meter drops and extreme heat and cold temperatures (+200°C / -50°C).

The XtremKey is constructed with zamac, a metal alloy composed of zinc, aluminum, magnesium and copper. It’s less than three inches tall and sports a USB 2.0 interface.
