Knox for Mac OS X gets ‘leaner and meaner’

Knox for Mac (http://agilewebsolutions.com/knox), an encryption and backup solution for Mac OS X 10.3 and Mac OS 10.4, has been updated to version 2.0.3, which adds full disk encryption for non-boot volumes. According to the folks at Agile Web Solutions, it’s a “leaner, meaner version” with several changes and fixes.

Knox 2.0.3 brings a 50% reduction in the size of the application, as well as fixes to cut launch time in half and improve operation when running as a menubar application. Support for beta builds has also been added to Knox, allowing users to opt-in to the beta program. Version 2.0.3 also fixes an issue that caused users to be unable to turn off the auto-update feature, as well as minor text inconsistencies in the About Knox and Preferences > Version windows.

With Knox for Mac you can store your files in encrypted “vaults” and back them up to other Macs, servers or iPods. You can open and close vaults directly from the Vaults menu on your Mac. Knox’s encryption is based on Apple’s FileVault technology and protects files with the U.S. Government’s new Advanced Encryption Standard (AES).

Knox for Mac costs US$34.95 for a single-user license. The 2.0.3 update is free to current licensed users of version 2.0 or higher. A 30-day demo is available from the product web site. Knox for Macs is Universal Binary so runs natively on both PowerPC and Intel Macs.
