Apple could put its next-generation iPhone on sale during the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC), “sources familiar with the situation” tell “Mashable” (http://mashable.com/2010/04/28/apple-iphone-launch/), the “Social Media Guide.”

“Over the last two years, Apple has revealed both the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3GS at WWDC,” the article says. “However, the release of the actual iPhone hardware has traditionally come a few weeks after the announcement. Our sources say that Apple may break that tradition this year by shortening the timetable. An immediate release would also break another tradition: Apple fans camping out in front of Apple stores just so they can get their hands on the company’s newest product.”

Indeed, the iPhone and the iPad are getting the lion’s share of attention from Apple regarding WWDC, which will be held June 7-11 at San Francisco’s Moscone West. Apple says “this year’s WWDC offers developers in-depth sessions and hands-on working labs to learn more about iPhone OS 4,” and that “WWDC provides a unique opportunity for developers to work side-by-side with Apple engineers and interface designers to make their iPhone and iPad apps even better.”
