QNX Aviage Multimedia Suite is now ‘Made for iPod’

QNX Software Systems (http://www.qnx.com) has announced that the QNX Aviage Multimedia Suite now offers enhanced support for iPods.

By meeting the certification requirements of Apple’s “Made for iPod” program, the suite helps manufacturers of in-car infotainment units, home theater systems, and other multimedia products to complete their “Made for iPod” certifications with less time and effort, says Andy Gryc, senior product marketing manager, QNX Software Systems.

The QNX Aviage Multimedia Suite goes beyond the certification requirements and supports Apple’s Extended Accessory Framework (EAF) for communication with iPhone OS 3.0, he adds. This capability allows applications developed with the suite to interact with applications running on the iPhone or iPod touch.

The QNX Aviage Multimedia Suite is a middleware solution that supports multiple generations of iPods, including the latest classic, nano, shuffle, and touch models. The suite allows a single Apple authentication chip to support multi-zone systems. As a result, separate listening zones inside a car, bus, train, or other multi-passenger vehicle can share a single authentication chip.

This feature also allows a home theater system to integrate with multiple iPod applications through a single authentication chip. The suite includes iPod one-wire support, enabling the delivery of audio and video through a single USB cable.
