Synology launches the DiskStation DS1010+

Synology America has launched the five-bay DiskStation DS1010+, which
boasts write speeds that are purportedly 250% faster than it’s
predecessor (the DS509+), includes the power of DSM open firmware,
expands up to 10 bays and is specifically designed for businesses
with growing storage needs.

One Synology DiskStation can take the place of multiple other
devices, according to Cheen Liao, president of Synology. The DS1010+
can cost-effectively replace computer file servers or other storage
devices on the network and integrate into existing cross-platform
environments, he adds.

Designed with scalability in mind, the DS1010+ can expand its storage
capacity horizontally from five bays to 10 bays whenever more storage
is needed using the separate DX510 Expansion Enclosure. Furthermore,
using RAID-1, 5 or six volume-types, disks can be migrated to
larger-sized disks, without loss of data. Whether adding additional
disks, or migrating to larger size disks, the DS1010+ with its
companion DS510 provide a total storage capacity of 20TB.

There’s also a web-based interface for mobile phones and two
iPhone/iPod applications. The DS1010+ has hot-swappable drives, is
powered by the Intel Atom Dual-Core Processor D510 and has two
Gigabit LAN ports, four USB ports and 1 GB DDRII RAM. With an
optional RAM module, the RAM capacity can be scaled up to 2GB or 3GB.

The DiskStation DS1010+ is available in both diskless and
pre-installed configurations. Contact Synology
