QuickerTek releases 1 Watt USB Transceiver

QuickerTek has updated its USB Transceiver
(http://www.quickertek.com/products/1watt_usb_transceiver.php), an
USB device that plugs into the USB port of any Mac desktop or laptop
and delivers 10 times the signal range of the internal AirPort card.
QuickerTek and its dealers are now offering the 1 Watt USB
Transceiver for $299.95.

Regardless of the setting, the 1 Watt Transceiver reaches out to
distant Base Stations or other wireless access points, according to
the folks at QuickerTek. The antenna is a 5dBi dipole model that’s
external to the computer case. This 1 Watt USB Transceiver
temporarily clips to anything within a foot of the computer.

According to QuickerTek, this makes it better able to receive
wireless signals — unrestrained by the metal computer chassis. And
the antenna is removable, so a higher power antenna can be used to
upgrade the Transceiver later.

This supports 802.11 b and g wireless standards to connect to most
any wireless network. The 1 Watt USB Transceiver, which weighs four
ounces, fully supports 64/128 bit WEP, WPA and WPA2 encryption. It
works with any MacBook, MacBook Pro, iBook and any Mac with USB and
running Mac OS X 10.3.9 or higher.
