WHAT’S NEW IN FOXTROT PERSONAL SEARCH

Change notes – version 1.0.9 (build 182)

* Added support for Entourage (version 11.2.3) indexing of e-mail
messages, contacts and events; these are correctly categorized and
appear in the result list under their actual subject/name/title, thus
giving a direct indication of their content without needing to launch
Entourage
* Likewise, all third-party applications which properly map their data
to the appropriate Spotlight UTI types appear decoded in the result
list – an example of this is BareBones’ Yojimbo
* The evaluation period for FoxTrot has been set for 30 days, beyond
which the application can continue to search, but not update, existing
indexes (whilst nagging every so often).

Change notes – version 1.0.8 (build 179)

* Improved error handling when the indexer had trouble launching
(already launched by another user, index corrupted, other error)
* In order to ease the communication between FoxTrot components upon
launching, the indexer and the crawler now start with normal priority,
and switch to low priority when finished launching
* The application no longer fails to launch if the crawler requires more
than one minute to get started (can happen on a Mac with many startup
items)
* iWeb’s metadata importer should no longer cause problems when indexing
Pages documents
* Some music or video files could, in some cases, not be previewed
earlier
* If a metadata importer crashed the file crawler, the indexer could
hang in some circumstances, thus causing FoxTrot to fail on relaunch
* Pages documents could fail to index, or crash the indexer, when iWeb’s
metadata importer is present

REMINDER: WHAT IS FOXTROT PERSONAL SEARCH

FoxTrot Personal Search is a new application that extends searching
capabilities on all of Spotlight’s searchable document types on Mac OS X

Entourage and Mail); works on Mac OS X 10.3.9 as well.

Previews found PDF, Microsoft Word and HTML documents with search terms
hilighted; plays found movies, photographs and MP3 files; focuses and
pinpoint the relevant documents with advanced categorization.
