Windows Media Player for Mac development halted

A report on CNET News.com notes that Microsoft has confirmed it has halted development of Windows Media Player for Mac. “We have no plans to provide future updates or product support for Windows Media Player for Mac,” Adam Anderson, Microsoft public relations manager, said in an interview Thursday. The company will continue to offer the current version for download, and this week it announced a deal with Flip4Mac (see related story) to offer a free plug-in that will allow Mac users to play WMP files from within QuickTime. “It’s basically a business decision for Microsoft,” Anderson said. “Like any other company, we have business priorities. Our focus really is in delivering the best experience to Windows customers.”
