‘Pod psychology’ article on Chicago Tribune

In an article appearing on the Chicago Tribune Web site today, Kimberlee Roth takes a look at how people are using their iPods in everyday life and reports on the upcoming book on iPod culture by Michael Bull, a senior lecturer in media and film studies at the University of Sussex in England. “For his upcoming book on iPod culture and urban experience, Bull has interviewed thousands of users around the world about how they use their iPods. Many of his subjects reported using their players at work. ‘It can drown out noise and allows them to control their office space. Part of the motivation behind it is so that people see the headphones; it’s like a ‘do not disturb’ sign. It cuts out the chit-chat.'”
