The Register: ‘Whatever happened to… the Apple Mac?’

In his Macworld Preview column for The Register, Andrew Orlowski ponders Apple’s plans for its computer business — in light of iPod’s overwhelming success. In particular, the columnist wonders what a budget Mac would mean for Apple in terms of market share, profit and image. “With Microsoft’s continuing difficulties in getting Longhorn out of the stable, 2005 looks like a prime opportunity for Apple to capitalize on its hard work,” concludes Orlowski. “The computer business still brings home the bacon.” Incidentally, the BBC and CNET News.com have also posted articles with their thoughts on what Steve Jobs may or may not announce later this morning.
