DAQ Plot Adds New Measurement And Control Features For Mac OS X

DAQ Plot Adds New Measurement And Control Features For Mac OS X
July 20, 2004

VVI today announced the release of DAQ Plot version 9.5.1, which adds
control features along with real-time strip chart display.

“The DAQ Plot application is the quickest and easiest way to view
data from sensors and laboratory equipment with voltage connectors.”,
said John Brilhart, Chief Technical Officer of VVI. “This version
adds features to control machines through a built-in feedback control
loop and the setting of digital output channels. The effect of the
feedback and control switch settings are immediately viewed on the
real-time strip chart so users can monitor and assure their process
as it happens. Within minutes customers start understanding their
process and manufacturing systems and seamlessly produce publication
quality results directly from their data acquisition computers.
Because of its intuitive features it can be applied to many
situations to give immediate and highly interpretable output.”

“Vvidget Pro, the underlying programming framework, has been updated
to abstract hardware devices and states so adding new features and
hardware is just a matter of using a well-designed framework as a
guide. This proven design is used by customers for high speed needs
such as the display and control of laboratory devices to low speed
needs such as distributed manufacturing process control and
monitoring. By making custom systems, scientists and engineers are
more productive and capable. This type of customization gives our
customers the competitive edge they seek and help them develop and
maintain the quality of their products and processes.”

Version 9.5.1 adds these new features:

– Adds a feedback control loop. If an input voltage crosses a
threshold then DAQ Plot can set output voltages to drive other
hardware like solenoids. For example, when a reactor gets to
temperature a switch can turn it off and on.

– Adds high-speed hardware clocking for uniform time sampling from 1
to 100 samples per second.

– Adds controls to set the output states of 20 digital channels. This
can be used to control relays, actuators and other state devices from
the operator’s computer.

– Adds a simple command line tool to automate DAQ Plot functions.
Embed into startup scripts, other applications, web services, and
other services. The comprehensive documentation gives examples and
explains each step. Use DAQ Plot’s intuitive interface to setup the
command line options.

– Each input channel can now be mapped with a lookup table, so
nonlinear devices such as thermocouples can be used without
linearization circuitry.

– Vvidget Pro, the underlying programming framework, has been updated
to abstract hardware devices using a two layer framework design so if
you have custom device or just need more functionality the frameworks
act as a guide to add DAQ Plot like features into your own
application.
