Apple is now offering a 5-pack of 8x DVD-R media for US$19.95. “Apple 8x DVD-R media is certified for use in Apple 8x SuperDrive and with 4x, 2x, or 1x SuperDrive equipped systems. These discs are ideal for use with iDVD or DVD Studio Pro.” Apple also offers a 5-pack of 4x DVD-R media for $9.99, but has apparently discontinued its 2x discs.
