MacSpeech talks about spoken, speech interfaces

MacSpeech has released a statement explaining how Apple’s upcoming Spoken Interface will relate to MacSpeech’s iListen flagship product. The company says that what Apple is developing is a “spoken interface” and not a “speech interface.” MacSpeech says that the former means the computer will talk to you. It will speak the names of buttons, menus, sliders, and other interface elements, providing the developer has followed Apple’s guidelines when writing their software. Apple’s announcement doesn’t mean they’re providing features in the Mac OS that will change the user’s speech into text (dictation), which is a speech interface (such as iListen), according to MacSpeech.
