HP sues Gateway over patent infringement

On Thursday, Hewlett-Packard filed a lawsuit in San Diego federal court against Gateway for allegedly refusing to pay licensing fees on six HP patents, reports AP. According to HP, Gateway paid the fees to Compaq, which HP acquired in 2001, from 1994-1999. When the first licensing agreement expired in 1999, HP says Gateway continued to use the patented designs but did not pay for them. Gateway spokesman Bob Sherbin said the company would fight the infringement allegations in court.
