Apple laptops coming to Maine private school

Thornton Academy of Saco, Maine, is finalizing plans to provide Apple laptops to its students next fall, the Press-Herald reports. It’s the first of Maine’s private schools to implement such a program though all seventh- and eighth-graders in the state’s public schools are provided laptops. Officials have estimated the Thornton Academy program will cost US$3 million to start and cost an additional $900,000 a year to maintain, the Press-Herald reports. The school is negotiating with Apple to determine whether it will lease or buy the computers.
