Apple slapped with several new lawsuits

– In its quarterly report (SEC form 10-Q) filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission Tuesday, Apple revealed that it is a defendent in a number of recent lawsuits—including five dealing with the iPod’s battery. Apple said five separate plaintiffs—known only by their last names of Craft, Chin, Hughes, Westley, and Keegan—filed purported class-action cases alleging misrepresentations relating to iPod battery life. The complaints allege violation of California Civil Code Section 17200 for unfair competition and violation of the Consumer Legal Remedies Act. The lawsuits, which were filed between Dec. 23 and Dec. 30, 2003, also allege false advertising, fraudulent concealment and breach of warranty.
