Pioneer today announced the DVR-S606, a new multiple format external DVD/CD burner with both FireWire and USB 2.0 interfaces. The DVR-S606 has a “sleek industrial design,” can sit vertically or horizontally, and features the Pioneer DVR-A06 mechanism (the company’s sixth-generation internal recordable drive). The new drive enables high-speed recording of up to 4x write speed with DVD-R discs, 2x with DVD-RW discs, 4x with +R media, and 2.4x with +RW media. It also records CD-R media at up to 16x and 10x with CD-RW discs. The DVR-S606 will be available later this month for US$299.
