CNN to interview researcher for carrying Human Genome on iPod

Will Gilbert, a researcher at the Hubbard Center for Genome Studies at the University of New Hampshire, let us know that he has been invited to be interviewed on CNN Headline News regarding an article which appeared last Fall on Apple’s Web site. “This story came to their attention because of my using an iPod to carry the Human Genome database from one system to another, but the real story is using the OS X UNIX underpinnings to run a biological application called BLAST. And then turning to the Apple/Genentech Velocity Engine version of BLAST (A/G-BLAST) to do the job 500 times faster.” The interview is currently scheduled for 7:45 PM ET on Friday, January 24 as part of a technology segment with CNN’s Erica Hill.
