Apple and Sorenson Media settle lawsuit

Apple and Sorenson Media today announced the settlement of a pending federal court lawsuit that had been filed by Apple in April 2002. The settlement provides the dismissal of all claims and counterclaims. Apple sued Sorenson Media in an effort to prevent the company from licensing its video compression software to Macromedia. Apple claimed that Sorenson was is in breach of contract, because the company previously signed an agreement with Apple preventing them from “developing, marketing, or licensing” any form of their compression technology used in QuickTime. Sorenson filed a counterclaim against Apple in July. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
