Monsters Inc. sets DVD/video sales record

Pixar, the film studio run by Apple CEO Steve Jobs, and Disney today announced that Monsters Inc. set a record for opening day sales of DVDs and videos by selling 5 million copies yesterday. The previous record of first day sales was held by Disney’s The Lion King, with 4.5 million copies sold. Commenting on the achievement, Jobs said, “We’re thrilled! Pixar and Disney pulled out all of the stops on this one — with the new animated short ‘Mike’s New Car,’ the unique Human and Monster worlds on the DVD, and the stunning image quality that results from being completely digital from computer to DVD.”
