New dual-1GHz Power Mac no faster than previous model

Initial benchmarks from BareFeats reveal that Apple’s new dual-1GHz Power Mac G4 is no faster than the previous generation model, despite sporting a faster bus, DDR RAM, and an ATA/100 hard drive controller. The primary bottleneck with the new system involves the PowerPC G4 processor itself, which is apparently unable to actually take advantage of the DDR RAM. Meanwhile, eWeek columnist Matthew Rothenberg discusses the new Power Macs, commenting on what performance gains are to be had and noting that he expects more significant performance jumps down the road from Apple.
