Sony introduces 2.1 megapixel MircoMV Handycam

Sony today announced the DCR-IP220, a new 2.1 megapixel Handycam featuring 530 lines of horizontal video resolution for high-quality video and high-resolution still pictures (1600×1200). In addition, the company announced the DCR-IP55, which features a new fold-down handgrip and a 1.0-megapixel CCD for 520 lines of horizontal video resolution and still image resolution of 1152×864. Both models offer 10X optical/120X digital zoom, super SteadyShot picture stabilization and, new to MICROMV Handycam camcorders, super NightShot infrared system for recording in total darkness. The DCR-IP220 and the DCR-IP55 will be available in October 2002 for about US$2,000 and $1,500, respectively.
