Olympus and Fujifilm announce new ultra-compact memory card

Olympus and Fujifilm today announced the xD-Picture Card, a new type of memory media with an ultra-compact design, jointly developed by both companies. The memory card is about the size of a postage stamp, offers storage capacities up to 8GB, features compatibility with different digital camera brands, and is priced comparably to current SmartMedia cards. The xD-Picture Card will be introduced this fall along with digital cameras from Olympus and Fujifilm that support the media. Initial memory sizes of 16MB, 32MB, 64MB, 128MB, and 256MB will be offered, with 512MB and 1GB-8GB versions arriving the following year.
