QuickTime’s reported market share set to jump

QuickTime’s reported market share is set to rise sharply on July 1 when Nielsen/NetRatings releases a new report on the popularity of media players that incorporates new reporting methodology, according to c|net. Apple has long disputed the numbers that such research firms have established, which portray Apple as a small player compared to Microsoft and Real. Nielsen/NetRatings’s December 2001 report showed that QuickTime reached just 7% of users at home and 14% at work, compared with Real’s 31% share of home users and 41% of work users, and Microsoft’s share of 14% of home users and 25% of work users.
