Palm OS 5 transition to be staggered

Palm’s next operating system upgrade, Palm OS 5, will be implemented gradually and will rely on many current applications and tools during the transition, according to c|net. Despite the major release, which will incorporate support for the ARM-based processors that Palm will be migrating to, Palm OS 5 will rely primarily on PACE when it is initially released, an emulator that will allow it to run current software — similar to Apple’s approach during the PowerPC transition. Palm OS 5 is slated for release later this year, although its full feature set will not be implemented until the following revision.
