Some CDs may damage your Mac

Some music CDs, in particular the ones that use copy-protection to prevent them from being played and duplicated in a computer, may cause damage to your Mac according to a story appearing on TARGET=”_top”>MacUser today. “CDR (Campaign for Digital Rights) continues to compile a lengthening TARGET=”_top”>list of copy-protected CDs and though not all of them will damage your Mac, some are reported as delivering poor quality sound when played ‘legitimately’ in hi-fi equipment,” notes the report. Updated (14:30) – An Apple Knowledge Base document discusses the problem with these discs and offers some possible work-arounds. More importantly, however, Macs that are damaged by such CDs will not be covered by the AppleCare warranty.
