Virginia Mac reseller shutting down, blames Apple

Richmond, Virginia-based Capitol Mac, a reseller specializing exclusively in Mac business over the past 12 years, has closed its store and will open for one final time this Saturday, March 16 for a liquidation sale. A recorded message relays the news to its customers that “Apple has left us with no choice,” although no further clarification is offered, and directs any interested business to Apple’s retail store in McLean, Virginia — some two hours away. Mac users in the Richmond area, however, can still turn to MediaCom, another Apple authorized reseller in the city. Updated 18:30 – An email sent out to some customers from Capitol Mac includes this explanation for the stores closure, “Apple has placed us in this position, with their competitive tactics and anti-reseller policies. It is most unfortunate that this has happened, we have enjoyed serving the Richmond Mac community for the last 12 years.” Store owner Joe Butler was unavailable for comment.
