At the Frankfurt Musikmesse conference yesterday, Propellerhead Software announced Reason 2, the upcoming new version of its highly acclaimed music studio software. Slated to ship in the second quarter of 2002, Reason 2 features tight integration and compatibility with Mac OS X, as well as a host of new features and enhancements. Reason 2 upgrades will sell for EUR 99 or US$89; pricing for the full version has not yet been determined. Also at Musikmesse, Steinberg announced Cubase SX, a music production package that features Mac OS X compatibility, intelligent MIDI Input and processing tools, new virtual instruments and effects, 5.1 Surround, a new user interface, and more. The software will ship at the end of the second quarter for EUR 799, with upgrades priced between EUR 149 and EUR 299.
