Apple receiving Grammy award tonight

Apple tonight will be presented with a Technical Grammy Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences for its “outstanding technical contributions to the music industry and recording field.” On January 31 it was announced that Apple would be receiving the award this year, as well as Moog Synthesizers. Apple is the first computer company to win a Technical Grammy; past winners have included Sony/Philips for developing the compact disc, and Ray Dolby, who pioneered noise-reduction technology. “We love music and are thrilled to play a part in how music is created and enjoyed,” Apple CEO Steve Jobs said in a statement. “We are honored to be receiving our industry’s first Technical GRAMMY and we look forward to making many more contributions in the years ahead.” The 44th annual Grammy Awards will air tomorrow evening at 20:00 ET on CBS.
