Music fans criticize legit music services, continue swapping

Although two online music subscription services backed by the record labels, MusicNet and Pressplay, are now available for use, music fans who have taken advantage of peer-to-peer services such as Napster and now Audiogalaxy, Gnutella, Kazaa and others are continuing to do so, according to c|net, and are raising a critical eye to the new services. Users contend that the pay subscription services are much too restrictive; for example, Pressplay is not compatible with any operating system except Windows, and licenses for downloaded music “evaporates” once the subscription is cancelled. Representatives of both MusicNet and Pressplay hope that feelings will change as the services improve, and that fans will choose to compensate artists and publishers for their work rather than stealing it online.
