TidBITS: Accessibility and the Mac

TidBITS has published an excellent article covering the current state of accessibility on the Mac, noting Mac products and utilities available to the hearing and visually impaired, and how Apple is handling issues such as Section 508 compliancy and the needs of disabled computer users. Author Joe Clark notes that Apple made some small strides with the inclusion of certain small utilities in Mac OS X 10.1, but the platform as a whole lags far behind its Windows counterpart. “…I was unable to find any news of significant upgrades to Macintosh adaptive technology or new plans for Mac OS X compatibility. If it’s happening, adaptive-technology vendors, whom I specifically asked for updates, are not talking.”
