Neverwinter Nights developer drops ties with Interplay

Canadian game development studio BioWare—best known for its Baldur’s Gate role-playing game series—has announced that it has terminated its contract with Interplay Entertainment to develop its latest computer game, Neverwinter Nights, according to Inside Mac Games. The move comes following the filing of lawsuits against Interplay by both Bioware and Parallax Entertainment alledging unconsented sublicensing of distribution to third parties and failure to pay due royalties. While the contract termination leaves a publisher for the game in question, BioWare has assured fans that it will release Noverwinter Nights for Mac OS 8/9, Mac OS X, Windows and Linux in early 2002. MacPlay, which has licensed a number of games from Interplay to bring to the Mac, has asserted its intention to publish Neverwinter Nights for the Mac.
