The U.S. Department of Justice is already using some of its new anti-terrorism powers obtained from the controversial USA Patriot Act to monitor cable modem users without obtaining a judge’s permission first, according to Wired. The Patriot Act also allows members of law enforcement to obtain a user’s IP address as easily as their phone number.
