Apple introduces iPod to the world

Apple today introduced iPod, a new digital audio player (MP3, MP2, more) with a 5GB hard drive capable of holding 1,000 songs and 20-minute skip protection. Billed as the first portable MP3 player to come equipped with a FireWire interface, iPod measures 2.4″ x 4″ x 3/4″ (6.5 ounces) and features a 10-hour, lithium-polymar battery that is fully charged in about an hour. The FireWire interface allows the device to double as a portable hard drive for data storage, and it can be recharged through the included power adapter or via FireWire. The device also includes a backlit LCD display, playlist support, ID3 tag support, integration with iTunes 2.0 (also announced today), and a scroll wheel for easy navigation of songs and playlists. iPod is scheduled to ship on November 10 for $399, with an additional iPod Power Adapter available for $49.
