AT&T to acquire Excite@home’s cable service

A battered Excite@home is expected to file a pre-packaged bankruptcy filing later today that involves AT&T acquiring its high-speed cable modem service. AT&T relies on Excite@home for its cable modem service and already owns a good stake in the company. As part of the deal, AT&T will also gain Excite@home’s 3.7 million customers. AT&T apparently has no interested in the Excite portal, however, whose future at this point seems dim. The deal is expected to close before the year is out, subject to regulatory approval.
