Intel announces new wireless products

Intel today announced a number of 802.11a and 802.11b wireless networking products, after c|net offered a preview of the new products yesterday. Intel’s 802.11a products will ship in November and support transfer speeds of up to 54Mbps, compared with the 11Mbps speed of 802.11b (the standard that AirPort is based on). The 802.11a products consist of an access point, CardBus card, PCI adapter, and a PCI adapter for embedded solutions. Intel also added USB and PCI offerings to its 802.11b products, which are available now. The 802.11a products will ship in November; the CardBus card will sell for US$179 while the access point will carry a $449 price tag.
