USB On-The-Go looks to expand USB 2.0’s presence

The USB Implementers Forum today released the proposed specification for USB On-The-Go, an extension of USB 2.0 that will enable devices to function as both host or peripheral. The technology would enable MP3 players to be connected to each other to share files, for example, or for a camera to be connected directly to a printer. Ratification of the proposal is expected by the end of the year, with devices featuring the new technology shipping some time next year.
