Intel Developer Forum to be full of FireWire

Intel’s upcoming Developer Forum on August 27 will showcase “a ton of 1394 [FireWire]” products, according to Anand Chandrasekher, Intel’s vice-president of microprocessor marketing. The move is surprising, as Intel has long been trumpeting its own USB 2.0 technology, which many see as a competitor to FireWire. “With a dip in the PC market, vendors are desperate to find new applications, and are increasingly looking to the consumer electronics world for inspiration. So while 1394 was once just a niche product for niche players – ie. Apple – it’s now important to the big guns too,” explains an article at The Register.
