Bootleggers still trading — Napster shuts down service

In a move that many predicted would happen eventually, Napster — the beleaguered music-sharing service — has suspended the ability for users to trade songs and said that they were not clear when it would reopen to its users. A note on the company’s Web site states, “File transfers have been temporarily suspended while Napster upgrades the databases that support our new file identification technology.” Looks like it is back to the drawing board for Napster.
