Borland Previews JBuilder(TM) 5 for Mac(R) OS X

Borland JBuilder Now Supports Four Leading Operating Systems

APPLE’S WWDC 2001, SAN JOSE, Calif., — May 21- Borland Software
Corporation (Nasdaq NM: BORL), a leading provider of e-business
implementation platforms, today announced the availability of the beta
version of Borland JBuilder 5 for Mac(R) OS X, Apple’s next generation
operating system. JBuilder, the market leading Java(TM) development
environment, now allows customers the freedom of choice to develop and
deploy their Java applications to any of the leading operating systems,
including Linux(R), Windows(R), Solaris(TM) and now Mac OS X. JBuilder for
Mac OS X is the most comprehensive visual development environment for
creating Java 2 Standard Edition (J2SE(TM)) applications that take
advantage of the new Apple Aqua(TM) user interface.

“Mac OS X is the only high-volume personal computer operating system with
out-of-the-box Java 2 integration and we are excited to bring JBuilder to
the Mac platform,” said Tony de la Lama, vice president and general
manager of Borland’s Java business unit. “Supporting Mac OS X is an
important step in our mission to provide a cross-platform solution for our
customers.”

“Mac OS X features a highly-optimized, tightly integrated implementation of
J2SE 1.3, including the client version of the HotSpot virtual machine,
making it an ideal environment for Java development,” said Ron Okamoto,
Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. “We’re excited
that Borland joins our growing list of developers and we believe that
JBuilder for Mac OS X provides a compelling solution for creating dynamic
applications.”

JBuilder is one the most comprehensive sets of award-winning visual
development tools for creating applications for the Java 2 platform and is
now available for the first time on the Mac. The open, scalable, and
standards-based JBuilder development environment accelerates time-to-market
— whether you need to rapidly build graphical user interfaces, database
applications, work with XML, or design data-driven dynamic Web
applications, servlets, and JSP(TM).

The beta version of JBuilder for Mac OS X will be available at Apple’s
Worldwide Developers Conference from Monday, May 21 – Friday, May 25, and
the final version is expected to be released later this year.
