Addresses quickly running out on the Web

Internet analysts are saying the Web will run out of IP addresses by the year 2005 if a new standard is not adopted soon. Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is already in place in Europe and Asia, but the current technology in North America — Internet protocol version 4 (IPv4) — will only hold 4 billion addresses and is fast running out of space. According to a Reuters report on USA Today, “400 million people are now connected to the Internet and that is forecast to rise to 1 billion by 2005 and 3 billion by 2010.”
