REAL Software announced on November 13, 2000 that any purchase of or
upgrade to REALbasic 2 occurring on or after November 1, 2000 will be
eligible for a free upgrade when REALbasic 3 ships.

January 17, 2001

REALbasic is the powerful, easy-to-use tool for creating your own software
for Macintosh, Mac OS X, and Windows. People who have never programmed
before who just need to solve a problem, experienced programmers who need
to enhance their productivity — and everyone in between — will benefit
from using REALbasic.

REALbasic 3 continues REAL Software’s quest to deliver outstanding tools to
the Macintosh user community. This release provides exciting new
functionality in addition to the ability to run on and compile for Mac OS
X. These new features include an all new animation engine, revamped
database features, enhancements to the Code editor and debugger, Crash
recovery, searchable online reference, build (compiling process)
AppleScriptable, vastly improved Windows support, and more.

REALbasic 3 beta 2 adds the new registration scheme, a nice adjustment to
the behavior of the Project window (when an item is selected, you can press
the Tab key to jump to the Name field in the Properties window to change
its name), and when adding new classes, the Code Editor window does not
automatically open. Further improvements to the display of Edit field
properties in the IDE, socket bug fixes for the Windows platform layer,
improvements to the appearance of items in Mac OS X, plug-ins fixes for Mac
OS X, a problem with screeching sound in some instances and more — read
the release notes!

Important note: Beta 2 requires the following registration numbers and will
only successfully register if you also have a registered version of
REALbasic 2 on your computer. (The final shipping version will have this
limitation for upgrade registration numbers only.)

Otherwise, REALbasic will run in demo mode, which allows compiling.
Applications compiled while REALbasic is in demo mode run for only five
minutes at a time and expire after thirty days. Database access is limited
to the first fifty rows of data.
